Ofsted didn't spoil Oxford

I spent a lovely day in Oxford yesterday, and due to a sudden change of plan (thanks to Ofsted) I got to spend time in two schools rather than one, Cherwell and Cheney.  It was great to meet so many like-minded teachers with so many ideas and so much enthusiasm - a real 'blue skies thinking' day.  In the final event, we spent all of the time on approaches to KS3 (although ever mindful of KS2 and KS4 implications) and there was no time for the specific session focusing on KS4.  I'm uploading both here though, as anyone at either the Cherwell or Cheney sessions will I'm sure be able to make some use of the material.

ALL East Anglia - Saturday 8 May

I am going to be at the ALL Essex and East Anglian Branch tomorrow at a special event at Woodbridge School, Suffolk, from 9.30am-3.30pm.

I am one of 3 speakers and will be joined by Eva Lamb, (Chair, South Yorkshire ALL and Language College Director of King Edward VII School), and Bernardette Holmes (Regional Centre Manager for Links in Languages in the East of England.  They will give talks on alternative certification to GCSEs and Plurilingualism under the banner of Keeping Languages Alive – the new challenges of 14 – 19 sector and I'll be focusing on the new GCSE speaking exam and implications for the way we teach speaking.

 

The programme is as follows:

 

09.30 – 10.00  Welcome and coffee

10.00 – 11.00  Eva Lamb

11.00 – 11.15  Coffee break

11.15 – 12.15  Rachel Hawkes

12.30 – 13.00  AGM (members only)

13.00 – 14.00  Lunch
14.00 – 15.00  Bernardette Holmes

15.00 – 15.30  Tea and cakes

 

During lunchtime there will be a presentation of “Activihub” by Peter Hughes of Linguascope.

The Branch has carefully considered the costing of the day and wants as many people as possible to be able to participate.  Here are the details:

 

ALL Members:     £40

Non-Members:    £55 (discounted if you join ALL on the day)

NQTs/PGCE Students:    £25

*Special Offer*:   £70 for two members coming together/£95 for two non-members    coming together
