I hope the first day of Language World goes well for you all today! I'm hoping to make it in time for the dinner this evening and to see you all tomorrow. I thought it would be useful to direct people to the materials from my sessions in advance and put them up now so here they are:
The USP of languages: making the case to learners, parents and other teachers
Many still need convincing about the place of languages within the curriculum and their importance as a life skill. This session offers practical and highly successful and innovative ways to make the case for languages to learners, to parents and to the wider school, including SMT. There are some steps we can all take as language teachers to raise the profile and status of language within our schools within a short period of time.

The languages curriculum: skills-based teaching and active learning to motivate and engage
The new secondary languages curriculum advocates skills-focused teaching and active learning. This session gives different practical ideas that achieve this. They range from cross-curriculum ideas that involve music, drama and ICT to teaching and learning strategies that develop creativity, autonomy, pronunciation and memory.
